News Release

On 05-21-2012 officers noticed a vehicle playing excessively loud music and determined that the vehicle had been taken in a carjacking.  The vehicle was stopped and all three occupants were arrested.

Around 10:15am on 05-21-2012 officers patrolling the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Dr and Centennial Olympic Park Dr heard a vehicle playing excessively loud music.  The music was so loud that officers were unable to determine which vehicle it was coming from until they pulled up beside the car.  As soon as the occupants of the vehicle observed the police beside them they turned the music down and the rear passenger began asking the officers why so many people were downtown.

Officers ran a check of the tag number and learned that the vehicle had been stolen during a carjacking on 05-16-2012.  The officers immediately requested additional units and followed the vehicle until they arrived.  Before officers activated their blue lights the vehicle pulled to the side of the road and the occupants began to exit.  The occupants complied with officers commands and were taken into custody.

The vehicle had been taken at gunpoint on 05-16-2012 in the area of 305 Joseph E Lowery Blvd.  At this time it does not appear that the occupants of the vehicle were involved in the carjacking.
