WHAT: |
On Saturday, Starbucks Coffee Company and the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta will spruce up the Thomasville Recreation Center with painting and new furniture. With the help of more than 100 volunteers, Thomasville will receive new sofas, chairs, tables, televisions and a projector. Volunteers will be on hand all day to paint and make deliveries. Additionally, Target and Staples have donated school supplies and book bags for more than 300 kids.
Starbucks has donated approximately $50,000 in improvement projects for the City of Atlanta’s recreation centers including previous projects at Pittman and Anderson recreation centers in April.
Thomasville Recreation Center is one of two pilot programs for Mayor Reed’s Centers of Hope initiative. The Centers of Hope program is designed to provide Atlanta’s youth with safe, structured environments where young people can bolster their academic skills, engage in robust physical activities and develop character-building traits.
