City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs Partners with the Community for 22nd Annual Hands on Atlanta Day
Volunteers helped to improve downtown neighborhood by cleaning the streets, painting and pressure-washing vendor structures along South Broad Street in preparation for Elevate South Broad Festival on October 27
ATLANTA – The City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs and Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association teamed up on Saturday, October 6 to clean South Broad Street for the 22nd Annual Hands On Atlanta Day. Funding was awarded by the “Love Your Block” grant to purchase supplies and clean up South Broad Street, located in downtown Atlanta.
"The City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs is thrilled to partner with the Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association for the 2012 Hands on Atlanta Day," said Camille Russell Love. "Cultural Affairs remains dedicated to improving downtown neighborhoods through art, performance and civic and social engagements such as this. We look forward to a cleaner, brighter and safer future for the South Broad Street area and the residents and visitors who live and work in downtown Atlanta."
This year’s theme, Love Your Block, Love Your Neighbor, Love Your School focused on Hands On Atlanta’s three strategic focus areas: the environment, economic recovery and education. Volunteers worked together to clean the streets, repaint and pressure wash vendor structures. This clean-up effort was in preparation for the Elevate South Broad Festival on Saturday, October 27.
Elevate is an annual event sponsored by the City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs. Through the Elevate South Broad Mural Projects, public arts commissions will improve the environment, contribute to downtown Atlanta’s economic growth and offer free cultural events to the public.
