Emergency Bridge Closure
Westlake Avenue Over CSX Railroad

What: Emergency Bridge Closure

Where: Westlake Avenue over CSX Railroad north of MLKing, Jr.Drive

When: December 14, 2012

Comments: Westlake Avenue Bridge over CSX Railroad is closed for emergency bridge repair. The Georgia Department of Transportation, who oversees bridge sufficiency for most bridges within the City of Atlanta, has directed full closure to vehicular travel due to public safety concerns. The bridge will be closed approximately 60 days for repairs to the beam structures underneath which are corroded. The schedule is weather contingent and may be subject to change.

This bridge repair is th last of several bridges repaired in 2012 under the City's Emergency Bridge Maintenance Program.

The following detour route is currently in effect:

Northbound Traffic:
• Right onto Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive
• Left onto Chappell Road
• Left onto Joseph E Boone Boulevard
• Right onto West Lake Avenue

Southbound Traffic:
• Left onto Joseph E Boone Boulevard
• Right on Chappell Road
• Right onto Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive
• Left onto West Lake Boulevard

The roadway is closed with local traffic access only.
