The ‘Mayor’s Summer Reading Club,’ an initiative of the City of Atlanta and the Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS), will host a Closing Celebration at Woodruff Arts Center to recognize the conclusion of another successful summer. The event will provide activities for children and families including arts and crafts, bike safety demonstrations, writing activities, a live performance, and a drama workshop. All children who attend will receive a free book appropriate for their age group, and will have the opportunity to enter in a bike raffle.

This year, the ‘Mayor’s Summer Reading Club’ distributed 15,000 free books to children across the city. The Club leverages community engagement to encourage children to continue reading and learning throughout the summer, while also helping families instill literacy as a core value in the home. The program seeks to raise awareness of the value and importance of reading to children every day by distributing free books to children aged eight years old and younger in Atlanta.
