Chief Operating Officer Dan Gordon Announces Ria C. Aiken as Director of Emergency Preparedness

City of Atlanta celebrates National Preparedness Month with series of trainings

ATLANTA Thế giới cá–  Chief Operating Officer Dan Gordon announced today that Ria C. Aiken has been named Director of Emergency Preparedness. In her role, Aiken will ensure that the City of Atlanta has precautionary measures in place for potential disasters and will work with federal and state Emergency Management Agency partners and community stakeholders.  Ria brings 18 years of environmental remediation, consulting and construction experience to the position. Her appointment comes at the start of National Preparedness Month.

Aiken as the Director of Emergency Preparedness,” said Gordon. “Her appointment will ensure that the City of Atlanta is both focused on emergency preparedness and equipped to work with other local organizations to deal with emergencies quickly and effectively.”

During National Preparedness Month, the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department will offer residents training opportunities to learn how to plan for emergencies.  The trainings will focus on planning for disasters, fire safety, light search and rescue, medical operations and CPR and will be held September 8 – October 27. The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department is also accepting applications for the Atlanta Emergency Preparedness Institute, a one-day program that gives attendees information on how to assist in emergency preparedness activities on October 7. Residents can RSVP at .

In 2014, Mayor Kasim Reed convened a group of leaders and stakeholders in law enforcement, emergency response and preparedness, meteorology, utility and business, to offer advisory recommendations on preparing for, responding to, and managing emergencies that occur in the City of Atlanta. The group is charged with offering recommendations to ensure the City of Atlanta is prepare to handle any natural disaster or severe weather event, while ensuring the safety and security of Atlanta residents.
