Framework announced during panel at 2016 AT&T Developer Summit in Las Vegas

ATLANTA – Mayor Kasim Reed participated in the Smart Cities keynote panel today during the 2016 AT&T Developer Summit in Las Vegas, where he joined AT&T Mobility CEO Glenn Lurie in announcing a new partnership to develop a Smart Cities framework focused on public safety, transportation and sustainability in the City of Atlanta.

During the panel, Intel Chief Executive Officer Brian Krzanich, FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel and Ericsson Chief Executive Officer Hans Vestberg joined Mayor Reed in discussing some of the most pressing issues for cities today, including public safety, sustainability and traffic congestion, and how Smart Cities technology can help address these issues. Glenn Lurie served as the panel moderator; he is based in the metropolitan Atlanta area.

“Atlanta is a great city and, thanks to our collaboration with AT&T, it will soon be a smarter city,” said Mayor Reed. “Improving sustainability and increasing public safety are already top priorities for the City of Atlanta. With the integration of AT&T’s Smart City solutions, we will be better positioned to support these initiatives while also enriching the lives of our residents.”

The framework will utilize Internet of Things (IoT) innovations to identify and create solutions for partners. AT&T is launching the framework with the City of Atlanta, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and spotlight cities such as Chicago and Dallas.

“We’ve built strong relationships with cities across the U.S. for over 100 years,” said Mike Zeto, general manager of Smart Cities, AT&T IoT Solutions. “We’re continuing to be a leader in smart cities innovation. Our holistic strategy can help cities save money, conserve energy, improve quality of life, and further engage with their citizens.”

The annual AT&T Developer Summit is one of the top software development conferences in the country, with 5,000 attendees expected in 2016. The Summit takes place each year the weekend before the Consumer Electronics Show, the premier showcase for new consumer technology and the largest convention held in Las Vegas.
