Mayor Kasim Reed will join Department of Watershed Management Commissioner Kishia Powell, U.S. Water Alliance Chief Executive Officer Radhika Fox and special guests to announce the winning name of the new tunnel boring machine.
More than 700 online name submissions were submitted for the massive 400-foot tunnel boring machine (TBM). The TBM name finalists are “Driller Mike,” “Peach Beast” and “Scarlett.”
The $11.6 million machine will construct a five-mile tunnel connecting the former Bellwood Quarry, the Chattahoochee River and the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant. The $300 million Water Supply Program will provide Atlanta with a 30-day water supply.
