WHAT: |
Mayor Kasim Reed will join the Georgia Department of Community Affairs,
SUMMECH CDC and Columbia Residential for a ribbon cutting ceremony for
the Mechanicsville Cityside project, an initiative that aims to create homeownership opportunities for low-income families.
The project consists of 66 new construction single family homes being built on acquired vacant land and formerly vacant single-family homes that were demolished, as well as the rehabilitation of eight existing single family homes. All 74 properties are scheduled as rentals for the first fifteen years, and then will convert to homeownership opportunity with the first right of refusal going to the tenant.
Columbia Residential and SUMMECH CDC renovated the existing homes and built new homes after purchasing the properties. The Department of Planning and Community Development was instrumental in establishing the partnership between the State of Georgia, SUMMECH CDC and Columbia Residential for the project.
