Residents across Atlanta and the nation have been hearing a great deal about changes in healthcare brought about by the Affordable Care Act adopted by Congress in 2010. One of the biggest changes will begin October 1 when individuals and families will be able to purchase health coverage. 

is intended to help Americans, including approximately 20% of Georgians who do not currently have health insurance, as well as people who currently buy their own insurance.

Open Enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace under the Aff¬ordable Care Act is coming soon. Here are three key dates to remember:

  • October 1, 2013 - Marketplace open enrollment starts
  • January 1, 2014 - Health coverage can start
  • March 31, 2014 - Open enrollment ends
